According to recent industry reports, an unnamed Chinese smartphone manufacturer, believed to be Xiaomi, Vivo, or OPPO, is testing a next-generation flagship smartphone with a dual 200 MP camera setup. If accurate, this would mark a significant step forward in mobile imaging, positioning the device to rival DSLR-grade capabilities.

The prototype in question reportedly features a newly developed 200 MP primary camera with a 1/1.1-inch sensor, expected to offer improved dynamic range, better low-light performance, and enhanced detail retention. The camera system is said to be paired with Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Elite SoC, which is commonly found in premium-tier Android devices.

Advanced periscope and macro capabilities

In addition to the main sensor, a second variant is also being tested, equipped with a 50 MP periscope telephoto lens utilizing a 1/1.3-inch sensor. This lens supports long-range zoom and macro photography, enabling close-up shots with physical zoom elements, a feature rarely seen even in current ultra-premium smartphones.

While the official brand name has not been disclosed, the level of camera engineering involved suggests it could be a prototype from one of China’s top three OEMs: Xiaomi, Vivo, or OPPO. Further information is expected to emerge in the coming months as the device progresses toward final development stages.

Two separate camera configurations are reportedly being evaluated:

  • Setup 1: 200 MP main + 200 MP periscope + 50 MP ultra-wide
  • Setup 2: 200 MP main + 50 MP periscope + 50 MP ultra-wide

Such configurations indicate that the device is likely to target the ultra-flagship segment, competing with the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra series or Xiaomi’s own Ultra-branded phones.
