A new digital rendering of the upcoming 2028 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has surfaced online, giving us a possible glimpse at the future of the German brand’s flagship luxury sedan. While the current 7th-gen S-Class (W223) debuted just a few years ago, this rendering hints at a bold design shift for the next generation.

Unlike the flowing and curvy silhouette of the current model, the 8th-gen concept embraces a more angular and boxier approach – reminiscent of the iconic W140 and W220 S-Class models. The front fascia gets a large, upright grille with a prominent chrome frame, along with a Mercedes logo embedded in the centre. It also features a shutter function, likely for improving aerodynamic efficiency and cooling – something that could be suited for both ICE and electrified powertrains.

The front is flanked by sleek LED headlamps, while the side profile reveals a large C-pillar, giving the car a solid, limousine-like stance. The sharp shoulder lines and large two-tone alloy wheels add further character to the profile. At the rear, a neatly integrated ducktail spoiler on the boot and a full-width LED tail lamp setup reflect a modern yet minimalist theme.

What’s interesting is that this rendering appears to preview a version still based on combustion engine architecture. However, reports suggest that the next-gen S-Class will likely adopt hybridisation across all variants. An inline-six hybrid setup is expected to be the primary powertrain, with smaller plug-in hybrid units possibly offered in select markets.

Although luxury SUVs continue to dominate global sales charts, the S-Class remains Mercedes-Benz’s technological and brand flagship. It showcases the best of what the brand can offer in terms of comfort, design, and innovation. By the time this 8th-gen model arrives—possibly in 2028—it is expected to be loaded with advancements in electrification, autonomous driving, and connectivity.

The S-Class has long been known for pushing boundaries in luxury mobility, and this digital rendition suggests Mercedes could revisit its heritage design language while embracing future-ready tech – a perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
