Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM Kisan Yojana) is an effective scheme to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers. Under this, an amount of ₹6,000 is sent directly to the farmers’ bank accounts every year in three installments. The aim of this scheme is to bring stability in the income of farmers and strengthen their financial condition.

19th Installment Status

Currently, beneficiary farmers are waiting for the 19th installment, which is likely to be released in February 2025.

  • 18th installment: Released on 5 October 2024, providing assistance of 9.4 crore farmers of ₹20,000 crore. – 17th tranche: Released in June 2024 by PM Narendra Modi in Varanasi, disbursing ₹21,000 crore.
  • 16th tranche: Was given in February 2024.

Objective and Benefits of the Scheme

The scheme helps farmers meet the expenses required for farming and promotes their economic independence.

  • Annual assistance: ₹6,000 (in three instalments of ₹2,000).
  • Instalments disbursed: April-July, August-November, and December-March.
  • Beneficiary farmers: Small and marginal farmers.

The scheme was launched during the interim budget in 2019 and is considered to be one of the world’s largest Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes.

Application Process and e-KYC

To avail the benefits of this scheme, farmers have to complete the e-KYC process.

  1. Online Process:
  • Visit pmkisan.gov. in.
  • Select the “Know Your Status” option and enter the registration number.
  • Check the beneficiary list from the “Beneficiary List” option.
  1. e-KYC Update:
  • Complete the process on the portal through OTP or on biometric basis by visiting the nearest CSC center.
  1. New Registration:
  • Select the “New Farmer Registration” option.
  • Submit the application by filling the Aadhaar number and required information.

Key Features of the Scheme

  • Financial Assistance: An effort to reduce farming expenses and bring stability in income.
  • Direct Assistance: The amount is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the farmers.
  • Transparency: Eligible farmers are ensured through e-KYC process.

PM Kisan Yojana is an important step towards strengthening India’s rural economy and making small farmers self-reliant. Crores of farmers are expected to benefit with the release of the 19th installment in February 2025.
