The biggest news in the smartphone industry right now is the record-breaking sales of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. According to the latest investor report from Hana Securities (via SamMobile), by the end of June 2025, 8.39 million units of this phone had been sold. This figure is far ahead of its rivals, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra (586,000 units) and the Vivo X200 Ultra (219,000 units), securing Samsung’s dominance in the ultra-premium segment.

Smartphone Sales by June 2025

  • Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra – 8.39 million units
  • Xiaomi 15 Ultra – 586,000 units
  • Vivo X200 Ultra – 219,000 units
  • Oppo Find X8 Ultra – 210,000 units

The report notes that although Samsung’s overall sales declined by 2% year-on-year, the S25 Ultra achieved far higher demand than expected. By March 2025, 5.08 million units had been sold, and in just three months, this number surged to 8.39 million. A major reason behind this success is the phone’s 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, considered the most powerful in the market with a peak brightness of 2600 nits.

In early 2025, the Galaxy S25 Ultra was compared with the iPhone 16 Pro Max, where the iPhone was rated better in battery backup (13 hours 6 minutes vs. 11 hours 30 minutes) and lower heating (45.2°C vs. 50.7°C). However, as tech commentator @Def64Gamer stated, the debate has now shifted from just specifications to sales figures and customer preference.

Brand loyalty is also regarded as a key factor behind Samsung’s success. According to a study published in the Journal of Consumer Research in 2023, consumers often prioritize brand trust over raw specifications. This is why, in its home market of South Korea, the Galaxy S25 Ultra surpassed the milestone of 1 million units sold within just 21 days of launch.

Even the 200MP camera of the Vivo X200 Ultra and the innovative features of the Oppo Find X8 Ultra could not slow down the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s momentum. So far, only 210,000 units of the Oppo Find X8 Ultra have been sold, while Samsung, with aggressive marketing and a strong ecosystem, has left everyone else behind.
