ASUS has officially introduced the Chromebook CX14 (CX1405CKA) in the Indian market after its global debut at CES 2025. Launched in Japan on March 15, this Chromebook is expected to grab attention in India as well—thanks to its affordable pricing and practical 14-inch display. In this review, we take a closer look at the 8GB RAM model and share real-world impressions based on hands-on usage.

Designed for Everyday Use – Sleek, Light, and Affordable

The ASUS Chromebook CX14 features a Full HD 14-inch display, striking the right balance between screen size and portability. This laptop is ideal for students, first-time users, or those looking for a dependable secondary device for browsing, emails, online classes, or basic work.

One of its standout features is the design: the body has a calm, clean look with a textured finish inspired by Japanese washi paper. This not only makes it stylish but also practical—it resists fingerprints and provides a good grip. Weighing just 1.36kg, it’s lighter than many similar-sized laptops, making it easy to carry in a backpack.

Ports & Practicality – Everything You Need for Daily Use

Even though it’s a budget Chromebook, ASUS has included all the essential ports:

Port TypeAvailability
USB Type-C1
USB Type-A1
HDMI1
3.5mm Audio Jack1

This setup covers most basic needs like connecting a monitor, pen drive, or headphones. While it supports up to 4K output at 60Hz via HDMI, for smoother performance, a 1080p resolution is more practical.

Keyboard & Typing Experience – Optimized for Comfort

The keyboard comes with a Japanese-style layout, but most Indian users will get used to it quickly. Keys like Backspace and Enter are large and easy to use. ASUS has added dedicated buttons for language switching (“Eng”/”Kana”) beside the spacebar, which may not matter in India but doesn’t affect usability.

There’s a slight downside—the ₹ (yen) symbol key is very close to the Backspace key, making it a bit cramped. However, this shouldn’t be a deal-breaker unless you type a lot. On the plus side, arrow keys are slightly bigger and easier to press.

Typing on the CX14 feels smooth and light. The keys have a subtle click and don’t tire your fingers, even during long typing sessions. However, white key labels on a grey background can sometimes be hard to see under bright lights.

Touchpad – Basic but Functional

The touchpad isn’t premium—it feels a bit plasticky and makes a slightly loud click. But it gets the job done for simple navigation. At this price point, that’s not a major concern.

Should You Consider It?

The ASUS Chromebook CX14 (CX1405) is a great option for Indian users who want a 14-inch laptop without spending a lot. Whether you’re a college student, casual user, or someone who wants a portable device for internet and light work, this Chromebook delivers solid value.

If ASUS brings this model to India soon, especially under ₹25,000 for the 4GB version and around ₹30,000 for the 8GB RAM variant, it could become a very popular choice in its segment.
