Google Home App: Google is reportedly working on a new feature that will make it easier for users to view recent updates and new features in the Google Home app. While Google recently began publishing detailed release notes for the app, users currently have to dig into the help page to see what’s changed a process that isn’t exactly user-friendly. But this could soon change.
Android Authority Reveals Upcoming Shortcut
According to a report from Android Authority, a recent APK teardown of the Google Home app (version 3.32.126.1) uncovered a hidden shortcut titled “What’s new”. This shortcut is expected to appear in the account switcher menu, allowing users to access the latest release notes directly from within the app.
The shortcut was manually enabled by Assemble Debug, who also shared a screenshot of how the feature might look. Once tapped, the “What’s new” button takes users straight to the release notes page, where they can find details about feature additions, bug fixes, and other changes all without leaving the app.
Revamped Account Switcher Menu Also Spotted
Interestingly, the teardown also revealed that the account switcher menu itself is getting a redesign, matching the style now seen in other Google apps like Gmail and Google Drive. This new layout is cleaner and more modern, aiming to bring a consistent experience across the Google ecosystem.
Feature Still in Development
At this point, neither the “What’s new” shortcut nor the redesigned menu has been rolled out to the public. These are still under development and are not yet available in the latest version of the app. There’s no official word from Google on when they will launch, but given the increasing frequency of Google Home app updates, users may not have to wait long.
Why It Matters for Users
Once released, this new shortcut could be a real time-saver. Whether you’re curious about new features or trying to troubleshoot an issue, being able to quickly access update information within the app will make the process much more efficient. For now, we’ll have to keep an eye on future updates.
