The Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is once again generating buzz with its anticipated advancements in camera technology and design, despite earlier conflicting reports about its feature set. While some leaks initially downplayed the scope of Huawei’s innovations, a new report from a credible source, Weibo’s Digital Chat Station, confirms that the Pura 80 Ultra will debut cutting-edge technology to redefine smartphone photography and aesthetics.

Huge Deco + Dual Periscope

According to the report, the Pura 80 Ultra will feature a revolutionary 1-inch Xmage main sensor with a variable aperture, enabling unparalleled low-light performance and dynamic range. This sensor, paired with Huawei’s SuperPixGain HDR 2.0, is expected to significantly enhance image quality, surpassing competitors like the Oppo Find X8 Ultra. Additionally, the device is rumored to incorporate a dual periscope telephoto system, potentially a world-first, integrating multiple focal lengths to shrink the camera module while maintaining exceptional zoom capabilities. This advancement will lead to a sleeker, more compact camera hump without compromising performance.

Huawei’s photography prowess relies on its advanced XD Fusion Pro Engine, which uses AI to optimize noise reduction and color accuracy. However, due to current technological constraints, certain components like the periscope telephoto lens cannot be fully integrated under the display. As a result, Huawei has opted for a distinctive rounded-triangular camera module, blending functionality with its signature premium design.

Despite this, Huawei is actively pursuing under-display camera technology. Recently uncovered patents reveal that Huawei is developing innovative methods to improve light transmittance through OLED panels, potentially allowing future devices to house sensors beneath the screen for a true full-screen experience. While this technology remains in the patent phase, it signals Huawei’s long-term vision for seamless, bezel-free smartphones.

The Pura 80 Ultra is also expected to feature a quad-curved 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with a 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, further refined to reduce bezels and enhance immersion. This display technology is likely to extend to Huawei’s upcoming tablet lineup, indicating broader implementation across its ecosystem.

Powered by the rumored Kirin 9020 chipset, the device promises flagship performance, with HarmonyOS NEXT ensuring a smooth and secure user experience. These advancements position the Pura 80 Ultra, set to launch in June 2025, as a formidable contender in the premium smartphone market, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in mobile photography and design.
