POCO May Ditch Standard X8 and F8 Models, Shift Focus to Premium-Only Lineup

POCO X8 and F8 will not be launched: POCO appears to be rethinking its smartphone strategy for the next product cycle. While the company has already introduced the POCO F8 Pro and is expected to announce the POCO X8 Pro soon, new industry inputs suggest that the brand may skip the regular X8 and F8 models altogether this year.

According to recent leaks and supply-chain signals, POCO is considering a streamlined lineup that prioritizes higher-end variants. The upcoming POCO F8 series is tipped to include only two models — the F8 Pro and a more premium F8 Ultra — with no standard F8 positioned below them. A similar approach is reportedly planned for the X series, where the POCO X8 Pro could be followed directly by a POCO X8 Pro Max, leaving out the vanilla X8.

This move suggests a deliberate push toward a more premium identity, particularly in the performance-focused segment where POCO has traditionally built its reputation. Instead of spreading resources across multiple price tiers within the same series, the company seems keen on offering fewer models with stronger specifications.

Adding to this, the upcoming phones are unlikely to be completely new designs. The POCO F8 Pro and F8 Ultra are believed to be global rebrands of devices from the Redmi K90 lineup, while the POCO X8 Pro is rumored to be based on the Redmi Turbo 5 Pro. Such rebranding would allow POCO to deliver powerful hardware while keeping development cycles tight.

That said, POCO is not expected to walk away from the budget segment. Reports indicate that the brand will continue to address entry-level and value-focused buyers through an expanded POCO M8 series, which may take on the role of covering lower price brackets.

It is worth noting that these details stem from IMEI database sightings and early internal reports. Neither POCO nor Xiaomi has officially confirmed the lineup yet. Still, if this strategy holds, POCO could be signaling a clear shift toward a Pro-centric portfolio, leaving its mid-range positioning to other series within the ecosystem.
